A quiet week to come
Went to see Certified Male with Zoe on Friday night. She got some free tickets through the Theatre. It was pretty funny throughout, although some scenes were a little close to the bone for some members of the audience.
The play revolved around a weekend away organised by a corporate boss for his three top execs, all of whom were basically giving themselves to their jobs at the expense of their personal lives. On top of this was the twist that there were to be only two executives left on the monday.
Anyway there were the usual lame jokes about ‘blokes’ and some musical pieces supported by a piano on stage (not literally). The funniest line was during a scene in which the four characters were playing golf with the piano in the background. One of the guys is taking forever to get settled in his stance for a long putt when, after about 2 minutes of constantly rearranging his feet etc.., he turns around and yells, “Shut the fuck up!” at the piano that’d been softly playing in the background. I laughed anyway ![]()
Zoe’s in a bit of a conundrum with the theatre at the moment. Her immediate supervisor, the main marketing guy (who’s lent us a tv/video), is leaving on the second of May and has a grand plan of training Zoe up to fill his shoes.
I’ve been telling her to go for it, what with the fat income and free tickets, but she’s worried (with good reason) that she’s going to be the one responsible for everything if it fucks up, which is highly likely - not because she can’t do it perfectly well - but because the director of the theatre has serious communication problems and struggles to inform her staff about WTF is happening until it’s too late (Sounds like another organisation I know).
So the marketing department, for example, has to do eveything yesterday and ring people to tell them that “they’ve” stuffed up, which is very embarrassing. What they really need is for the director to leave soon, which she very well may do.
My Saturday was spent at a lame-ass post graduate induction day at Uni. I learnt nothing and it was a complete waste of time. Jodi came up for it too, so it was good to catch up with her. She called on Friday when she arrived and was having a bit of a nervous breakdown about moving to Townsville. She’s like us 2 months ago, just feeling very small and overwhelmed by moving to a very brown, skanky place.
Not being one to hold a grudge, I only rubbed it in for a short time, before going and rescuing her from the heat and bogans of tsv. I gave her the “just stick to the best bits and go bogan spotting on the way to uni”. You should see some of the mullets I’ve witnessed since I got here, you wouldn’t believe your eyes!!!
Seeing her also made me feel very happy that we’re not together and that I’m with Zoe - what a legend Zoe is ![]()
Sunday, Zoe and I just hung out and unpacked/tidied up the flat. It was cool to have our own music and our own bed and books etc.. etc.. In the arvo we went to a cafe down by the river side, down by the river side, I’m goin’ to lay oh…. etc… to see some jazz/blues. It was pretty sweet.
This week at uni is lecture recess, the uni’s like a ghost town or a ski field in summer, very quiet. If you listen closely you can hear dogs howling…
