R.I.P Nina

I heard on the radio on the way to work that Nina Simone died on Monday in France.

Which is a little wierd because Zoe and I have been listening to her a fair bit recently. Songs like “I will be released” and “I got life” have been pretty much on repeat in our flat.

Last thursday night we had two of my friends from uni over for a quiet dinner of prawns and barra. Caroline is just starting out on her PhD on riparian vegetation and Asle, my office-mate, is 10 months into his Masters.

After dinner I dropped them home, out in the burbs. Caroline’s been living in a townhouse on campus with a bunch of crazy mofos ranging in age from 19 to 45, so we rescued her for dinner :), while Asle’s place is a little granny flat near uni, in which he has an estuarine fish tank with puffers etc… I got all inspired to put my tank together.

Last night Zoe and I went to see “Shanghai Knights” the new Jackie Chan movie. It was a blast, funny scenes, cute girls, a relatively passable plot and some kick-ass-kung-fu.

The out-takes were, however by far the best. Jackie Chan getting smashed in the head etc… and screwing up his english.

Next weekend, Zoe and I are going to head over to Magnetic Island for some R&R, kayaking, snorkelling etc… should be good.
