Stupid off-beat bastards!

Katie Noonan, of George fame, sux!

Zoe and I were joined by a couple of friends of ours for this show on tuesday night at the Civic Theatre. They sucked.

Firstlly, they were all out of time, which is a pain in the ass.

Secondly, they were all trying to out-do each other.

Thirdly, the sound tech. really didn’t do a good job.

Fourthly, and most importantly, Noonan’s annoying-ass-voice was wailing all over the funky bass lines.

Lastly, the whole show was a ‘journey through love in all its forms’, which was basically a very indulgent story of a girl getting involved with, and then dumping a guy.

All without an interval to get plastered in and numb the pain (or escape completely).

So, you can imagine my dismay at having to sit through nearly two hours of this rubbish.

If you were thinking about going - don’t.

1/2 a star for turning up.

p.s. Zoe and I were also quite embarassed b/c Zoe had talked it up (I, of course, had my reservations - have you heard the George album?)! and invited our friends.

In other news, I went out yesterday afternoon on the Ross River (of the disease fame) to teach some 3rd year students how to set gill nets.

I won’t go into the whole debarcle but: to set a net you basically feed it over the front of the boat from a bag, as you reverse. To stop the net moving in the tide/flow/wind etc… you tie a small anchor onto each end. Well, some ‘kids’ didn’t know how to tie a knot. One girl even tied a bow. Luckily I’m very patient!

This sort of behaviour reminded Alan, the lead tutor, of a story. He was setting nets with a volunteer one time when the wind blew up. Soon the boat was drifting into the rocky bank of the lake so Alan, who was driving the boat, asked his volunteer to throw the anchor over. She did. Without checking if it was connected to the anchor chain. It wasn’t.

Remember, dweebs abound. Really, this is simple stuff. As Henry Rollins, a guy who can really wail!, would say, “People, it’s a curb this high! *indicates very small height*”.
