First round of sampling

Off into the field on saturday for my first field trip.

But not before more dramas than you could ever imagine. I’m slowly learning that pretty much nothing ever happens quickly in North Queensland. It’s almost as though the mail come once a month!

Apart from the difficulties everything is more or less on track to leave on Saturday afternoon. In fact, I’ve been lucky enough to have Colton volunteer to come along with his electrofishing boat for a day, so we can actually stick to the experimental design a bit.

I was considering electrofishing using the backpack whilst sitting on the front of the punt (and no you won’t find that in the Australian Electrofishing Code of Practice). All for the measly sum of $500 (this is actually less than half of what QDPI want to charge me!).

On the home front things are pretty sweet although with car insurance and rego most of the pennies are getting sucked out of my bank account before they’ve even had time to check the place out. I feel a bit sorry for them really.

As for the number plates I can choose between “Qld - The sunshine state” or “Qld - The smart state”. I’m going to go for the latter - just for the irony. Crazy Qlders.
