Discipline
Staying motivated and disciplined while you’re doing a PhD is probably the hardest part of the whole process. All of my friends are constantly complaining about how they should be doing work etc…
But, recently (i.e. today) several of us have been trying really hard to do some actual work. I had to make myself sit at my desk, or in the lab, and literally struggle to hold myself down. Oh, well I pretty much made it, although I faded a bit this afternoon 
I was also lucky enough to get a guided tour around the aquaculture and marine biology research areas of the uni today. It was pretty cool. I helped out Kausy (a friend from the baseball team) to feed and check his pairs of clownfish for eggs. He’s breeding them for his project and has these really cute hatchlings that are about this big >-:
