Land of the long-weekend

In the last 5 weeks we’ve had: good friday; easter monday; ANZAC day; and labour day. In a month we’ve got Queens B’day and then a month later “Townsville show day”. How the funk is anyone supposed to get anything done? It’s especially bad news for those of us with limited self-discipline skills ;)
Anyway, Zoe and I have been making the most of the time off. The other day I bought a new fishing rod, with a nice overhead reel for casting lures into snags to catch Barras and so on. A couple of outings over the weekend resulted in 4 lost lures (they’re still up in trees and under rocks if anyone wants to go and salvage them…), but I also caught a little Mangrove Jack, which was very cool (although it didn’t put up much of a fight).

Zoe’s baby, the Hopscotch children’s festival, was on last week. It culminated in a big fun-day on Saturday. All kinds of cool activities were set-up, like face-painting, crazy drama activities, craft classes, didgeridoo playing and so on… All the kids had a ball. I dropped in at abut 4pm (after another baseball loss) and they were still going at it! There’s talk at the council of keeping Zoe on to help with other stuff because she did such a great job with Hopscotch, Yey!
