mmmm…. winter

Winter seems to have settled over Townsville. This means endless blue skies and nice 25deg weather. This should last until some time in September when the unsettled weather returns.

I celebrated this atmospheric stability with a little relaxing outing down to the Strand this morning. It really is nice when there is just a puff of breeze and pretty much nobody around except for the crazy-ass blower-vac people who are the most fastidious cleaners of fallen leaves (they even cut the coconuts off the trees before they have a chance to fall on small children and spark a lawsuit).

It was really nice except for the insidious bogans. There was one lady with two kids and heavily pregnant with the third. She was taking photos of the children splashing in the water and thought it would be great to capture a Kodak moment of the small boy running after the sea-gulls. So she tells him to, “Go and get the birds”. He runs off down the beach doing the I’m-three-yrs-old-straight-legged-big-bum-run after the gulls.

He scares them away and keeps on going; the bogan mum is too pregnant to chase him, so she’s waddling after him with her camera through the soft sand, while he runs up the beach, past the palm trees and the kiosk etc… and out of site. So she starts yelling out, “Kylan!!” (or whatever his name was).

Ah, another pleasant day in the tropical paradise of Townsville.
