Sometimes you lose
In Bull Durham, Kevin Kostner remarks, “Sometimes you win. Sometimes you lose. Sometimes, it rains!”. Well, here at JCU we lose - all the time - and it never rains (well almost never)!. This season the JCU Manta Rays Baseball club hasn’t won a game.
This is actually surprising because we have quite a few good players and seem capable of having great innings. It’s just that for one or two digs each game we fall apart completely and allow the other team to score 6 or 7 runs. Last weekend we lost 15-5.
It’s a shame really, as we’ve got quite a few rookie players (who have migrated from cricket or softball) who we’d like to inspire to rejoin us next season and who, although they can throw the ball anywhere they like, don’t really know where to throw it at any particular time [unlike the old guys who know where to throw it, but are so old and sore that they can't possibly get it there without the help of Australia Post].
