All-over-red-rover

I arrived back in Townsville yesterday. I was greeted by the smelly remants of what was, only a week ago, a thriving reef ecosystem. It had totally crashed. Three of the four fish are dead; the only survivor is the sail-fin tang. All the hard corals are gone, bleached and RTN’d beyond recovery. The majority of the soft corals are gone too. I managed to salvage most of the liverock which is now in a tub in my office here at uni.

I had a pretty good time away. Sydney was wicked, especially the surfing up at Port Stephens.

I also had some time to chill out in the botanic gardens in Adelaide and shoot some photos.

I went and checked out the barrages at the Murray River mouth, which are totally screwing the whole estuary by denying natural flows out of the river and stopping saltwater from moving upstream.

We finished off the conference in Glenelg, which is the SA version of Manly. It’s nice because the sun sets over the water…

Thanks, glad you like it. Reminds me of a line by the Cominc Guy off the Simpsons. He’s like, “Could it be any more orange”.
