The leaders of tommorrow
I’ve been marking some first year ecology papers. The students, or ‘leaders of tommorrow’ as I like to call them, were asked to talk about a) the process of succession on new ground formed by lava flows, and b) the greenhouse effect and it’s ecological importance.
Here are the top-seven answers:
7. “when an erruption occurs, large masses of lava kills off more or less all visible life on let’s say an island…”
6. “…no more greater changes occurs to the islands vegetation, as if the rules have been set and the plants inhibiting the island are now the ‘ruling ones’…”
5. “Due to the burning of fosill fules… the deterieration…”
4. “If the Earth is too hot farmers can’t grow food…”
3. “…the effect is growing greater and thus causing the global climate to rise…”
2. “This larva originates deep in the earths core where there are reserves of extremely rich nutrients. Over time, life ‘finds a way’ and will start using the volcanic rock to live. Because it is so nutrient rich the communities that will develop there will, florish over time… …changes may include a certain ‘low numbered’ species to increase due to these nutrients… …species diversity would accelerate over time.”
And the winner is…
1. “corals will be killed and general mayhem will occur.”
Oh, no not the coral!

Who is General Mayhem anyway?

General Mayhem or rather May-Hem was a seemestress in the second world war who grew sick of all the icky kahkee and decided to make some trousers in blue tough cotton for the workers. His model for the project was the Pants man and the rest is history…

get off your high horse rayner. instead of teasing these poor kiddies you should be helping them. and they call you “a tutor” ? shame, tombolo.
everybody knows that lava killing corals is widespread and that the general mayhem’s fosill fules are largely responsible. alan genders told me so.

Sounds like they should go back to school and do Earth and Enviro Science. And Standard English to boot.
