Certain injury or death
Here is a copy of a web chat conversation that I had this morning with Danielle from Raging Thunder rafting in Tully.
Please wait for a site operator to respond.
You are now chatting with ‘Danielle’
Danielle: Hi this is Danielle, may I help you?
you: Yes, I was wondering
you: about liloing the tully.
Danielle: If you want to experience certain injury or death.
you: in fact, we would like to inner-tube it.
you: we would, of course wear helmets, pfd’s etc…
Danielle: This is a grade 4 rapid river only for the most experienced kayakers and/or guided rafts.
you: mmm…
you: i thought as much, maybe we should relocate to a more sedate location
Danielle: Yes. Good idea.
you: i thought it was actually only grade 3 - weak grade 4
Danielle: The Mulgrave River wouls be more suitable.
Danielle: Some 5’s.
you: yes, but not nearly as fun…
you: thanks, i won’t waste any more of your time. cheers.
Danielle: No problem. Don’t do anything silly.
you: we won’t.
Danielle: The force of water is not something to play with!
We’re going on Sunday. Sounds like it’ll be fun, heh?

Lach, better not let your mum see that… ![]()

before anyone flips out and writes a silly comment, keep in mind that they want to protect the resource (i.e. if there is an accident then they will not exactly benefit) that they pay for (they pay money to have a year-round release from the dam upstream), and we’re only doing the lower half - which isn’t the corkscrew etc… and we’ll have helmets etc… on.

the tully river is quite ok to lilo unless it’s directly after a massive rainfall event, especially if you’re not a japanese tourist who can’t even swim 2m to shore with a life vest on (we like laughing at this).
have a fun time this w/end !!
I’ll be there on tues for 16 days

Go the Tully, I’ll look forward to some snaps (photos that is, not multiple bone fractures). And on you for last night’s appearance looking smart-as on the 7:30 report. You can handle a wet fish with the best of them.

ahahah - you saw that. yeah - that’s what 7 years at uni will do for you… i didn’t get to see it; i was too busy at the post-grad trivia night answering, “list the ten countries that have four letters in their name”. we only got 8. (they’re: chad, peru, oman, mali, togo, fiji, iran, iraq, guam, & cuba if you care).

i had exactly the same question on Tues night at Trivia. The stupid host said that Guam did not count because it was a part of Micronesia. As you can imagine there was much whaling and nashing of teeth from the crowd.
February 18th, 2005 at 4:55 pm
so, how did you get 10?
love the teeth-gnashing, that’s exactly what happens. last night, there was a question, “what is a thylaine?”, but it was supposed to be a thylacine (the tassie tiger) - much gnashing, esp. in such an academic (and therefore relatively pedantic) crowd

my spelling needs to improve ;(
I cannot remember the tenth!
