Mapview

Ok, this is pretty cool. Greg Collecutt at the UQ physics dept. has put together a small application called Mapview.

This allows you to make 3D models from topographic maps. In a perfect case of, “here’s one I prepared earlier”, Greg has already done Mt Bowen.

So, you aspiring Mt Bowen climbers can now visit Greg’s website and download the following files:

1. The application (200k)
and
2. The Mt Bowen files (200k)

    Very cool, but I tried using it last night and it looks like it would take a fair bit of practice to master. Bowen is indeed FAT.

    Yeah, I tried doing the El Cap wall in CA, but it was pretty tricky. You need a map where the contours are fairly well spaced.
