We don’t need no water…

T&Z.com is well and truely on fire. We’re now up to 651-odd comments to the 215-odd posts. A lot of these comments have been on the Hinchinbrook page, as the trash-talking and g-ing up gets going in the last few weeks.

Zoe’s photos from Laura are now up in their own gallery, so you can scope them there.

T-shirt sales have been going strong, with several sales over the last couple of weeks. For those of you with orders in the pipeline, I’ll be all over it this weekend and have them out to you next week. That’s the problem with custom things, they take a little longer. Especially when the business partner is also writing up a PhD at the same time :)

In fact, I’m thinking of starting a separate webpage/label for t-shirts. I was thinking of permanentmarker.com, but this is already taken. Any other ideas?

Here’s a photo of an 8kg barra from my last field trip to get you thinking…

    nice barra bro

  2. lock says:

That’s what we can do on the weekend before we leave - catch some fat barra! Unless, of course you had something else in mind Tomo?
I guess you photoshoped out the rope the barra is hanging from, small man!

What about tropicalthreads.com for your t-shirt bis?

or we could try one of the 3 pitch climbs on Castle Hill: Saint and Sinner (21) or Vision (19). Routes 6 and 3 below, respectively.

    here’s the route info http://www.immortal.net.au/climbing/

    castle hill

as for “tropicalthreads.com”. nice suggestion, but i’m getting middle-aged-hibiscus-vibes

I’m a crap rock climber, Tomo. But will happily run up castle hill and taunt you from above. By the way, can you get out to the reef to go snorkeling from Townsville? I know most people go out from Cairns but approximately how far out is it there and how long does it take and how much does it cost for a half or full day (Kath and I may go on the Saturday if it’s an option). Obviously I don’t expect you to research for me but if you know of a website of a company operating out of Townsville that I can find some info on or contact the that would be sweet.

  5. tom says:

sunferries are the main group who operate snorkelling from Townsville, but there are several other dive companies: Pleasure divers, Remote area dive, Diving dreams, Tropical diving, Pro dive, Adrenalin dive etc… etc…

    here’s a link

the reason people usually go from cairns is that it is closer to the reef. however, townsville actually has better diving. the Yongala wreck is reknowned as one of the top 10 dives in Oz and the best Wreck dive the nation has to offer. it sunk after the war with all hands going down. ooooo spooky.

the problem is that, ’cause the reef is further away it takes longer to get there (about 3-4 hours) and costs more (~$170 for a day trip).

alternatively you can snorkel off magnetic island, where we can all go and chill out and relax together. + i can show you the spots and it’s only $20 return.

  6. lock says:

Thanks for the dominant snorkelling advice, the wreck would be the goods if only I had a dive licence but alas, we’ll have to leave that for another time. The $170 also isn’t cheap considering 6 hours of that is spent on a boat travelling out to the reef. We’ll have to get our dive licences sooner or later and get up there again to do the reef properly but maybe this time Maggy Is will be the go.
By the way - I just bought a Mountain Designs GoreTex Paclite jacket last night - 380 grams of beautiful, waterproof lightness.

  7. tom says:

    mmmm… expensive?

  8. timtim says:

not when you are a hard working architect in the big smoke..

  9. YLD says:

A hard working architect in the big smoke? You must be joking.
I’m keeping an eye on you Lock and I hope your putting all your posts to T&Z on your timesheet :)

  10. tom says:

Don’t worry Lock, I’ll write you a note.

    “Dear Boss,

Please excuse Lock’s lack of architectural productivity today, he’s busy dominating.

    Yours truely,
    Tom.”

  11. lock says:

That’s just a fraction of my unpaid overtime that’s going into t&z posts, YLD.

And Timtim, all architects are hard working and still broke as hell. What would you know you lazy road worker!

  12. tom says:

meanwhile you’re all sponsoring me to go fishing and run the whole site. ahaha sucks to be you!!

  13. timtim says:

yes i have probably paid your way entirely on my own with the tax i have paid in the last year. by the way you should see the pics of the fish that i caught this weekend after climbing got rained out. it was this [----------] big! Seaforth baths is notorious for massive fish and it didn’t fail to produce the goods yet again.

  14. timtim says:

oh by the way do you know if there is a size limit on leather jacket? i couldn’t find it on the charts that i got from the fishing shop.

  15. tom says:

Well, the smallest leather jacket i can fit into is an XXXXL!! come-on….

An “I’m feeling Lucky” google search of “nsw fisheries recreational size limits” will take you here, where you will find that there are actually very few size limited species in NSW waters.

So long as Seaforth Baths is not a reserve area, you can keep as many tiny-innocent-defenceless-leather-jackets that you like :)

  16. timtim says:

i did indeed look at that exact site and i was surprised not to see more size limits. and it that the size of leather jacket you need to double up as a tent when times are tough as an impoverished student?!
