World leaders in climate change
research meet at Paluma

Meet Dr Williams, world leading climate researcher: big ideas, bigger nose. This shot was taken through a new fish-eye that Steve’s bought for taking photos of the rainforest canopy.

For the last few years, Steve has been running field trips up to the Wet Tropics, doing surveys and writing about the findings in scientific journals.

His lab had a get-together on the weekend and Steve asked me to go and talk about climate change and the freshwater fish, an area that’s been overlooked until very recently.

Unfortunately there wasn’t any pirate talk over the weekend, but I did manage to hang my hammock in the backyard and sleep in pretty cold conditions. It was 7 degrees C in Ingham that night - Paluma is at about 900m, so it was a fair bit below that. But I was toasty in my thermals and 3 season bag. So, looks like it’ll work in mild Alaskan conditions. I’m sure I’ll retreat to the hostels on the rainy/cold nights.

I’ve also posted some photos in the Paluma lab meeting gallery.
