International Pirate Day
for those not in the know, yesterday (thats 19th September, people, mark it in your diaries now!) was International Talk Like A Pirate Day. I know you Sydney boys will appreciate the need to mark the occasion.
JoJoJo and I have become obsessed with Pirate Jokes, after a rash of them at a trivia night recently, so the office atmosphere was primed to get into the swagger of things.
Since I work in the public Sector there were two things to consider:
1. that answering the phone “AArgh, Community Development, what do ye want?!” might not go down so well, and
2. what sort of cake should we have? (Public Sector is famous for eating cake at any given opportunity. I think the managers like it, cos it keeps us slaves distracted)
so, in order to celebrate, as we rightfully should, we organised a Piratey Afternoon Tea, and sent the email round that all should come dressed as Piratey as the days work appointments would allow. I baked a - Chocolate - Piratey Cake, and the challenge for a Pirate Joke JoJoJo hadn’t heard was put forth.
OK, so we didnt get too dressed up, and no-one answered the phone with an “Aaargh!” but there were a few gold hoop earrings, bandanas and plenty of inter-office scurvey-dog weevil-shagger name calling, and the incorporation of as many “Aargh”s into conversation as possible. (email from Joelle with “here Aargh the photos” - noice!)
The Piratey Cake was eaten and some photos were taken. Manager decided that staff fun activities were awesome and more Something-Days should be celebrated, but all vetoed the celebration of National Eczema Week. we intend to submit the story to our employee newsletter, and spend the cash on a friday “wine-down”.
Horray for International Talk Like A Priate Day!

It would be a bit rash to have a celebration of National Eczema Week so soon after the Piratey Day party

Lock, that was an original YLD joke and I own the Intellectual Property. I’m aware of that since I’ve spent the day at UNSW at a (pirate joke free) Intellectual Property Seminar.
