Manoa Valley

I spent my last day in Hawai’i going for an early surf at Ala Moana and then hiking in the mountains. I did about 25km between 10 and 6. It was pretty tough going in places, the moutains around here are steep, and it’s pretty hot and sticky. I headed up the valley behind the University of Hawaii Manoa Campus to a small waterfall. Then I climbed up and over the ridge and down to the Old Pali Highway which links the south and east coasts.

The turn around point is a pool in a small stream. It’s a popular spot and can be acessed off the highway. There were a couple of guys and their girlfriends chilling out there. I walked up and one of them offered me a Heineken. Sweet. I used the rope-swing and had just organised a lift home when one of the girlfriends popped back to the car to get something - it was gone. I waited around while they called 911 and their insurance agency etc… but decided that it would probably be better to make myself scarce, seeing as I had a plane to catch. Pulling on the pack, I made my way back up the ridge and home.
