2005 - the year in review

Santa was nice to me this year, as he should seeing as I’ve been such a good boy. ZoeSanta gave me a sweet Kathmandu tent for future adventuring, and YLMSanta gave me a 1G SD card for my camera (I can now take over 280 shots on the highest setting - I think I’m going to have to buy a new drive for my laptop ;) ).

2005 was a bit of a bitch for Zoe, but I had a whale of a time. The highlights would be climbing Mt Bowen with Lock and timtim, catching a 13lb salmon on the Russian River and seeing the northern lights in Alaska, visiting Pipe in Hawaii, leading the Manta Rays Baseball Club through it’s best season ever, publishing three scientific papers, and learning a lot about fish, science, and myself in the process. Other highlights were Andy and Bob’s wedding, and Kath, Ves, Amanda, Phil, and Dave & Jenny’s visits to Townsville. I was also bitten twice by dogs this year.

In 2006 I’m looking forward to finishing my PhD (will I have to change the site to www.drtomandzoe.com?), getting a nice postdoc organised, moving into a larger place which actually has some storage (and room for a puppy), IMDII (which may include climbing Federation Peak in Tasmania, climbing Mt Elliot near Townsville, and climbing Thornton Peak in the Daintree), and catching my first Barra on rod and line :)

For now though, it’s up to the Bay for a few days and then to Myall Lakes for a spot of camping (if we can find a spot) and Zoe’s birthday!

    hi guys,

i’m touched I made it on to your list of highlights for 2005! Likewise, one of my absolute highlights was my visit to the ‘ville - no matter how lame you try to convince me it is, I actually enjoyed it a lot. May have had something to do with the company, who knows.

All the best for 2006; I have a feeling it’s going to be awesome - there are unconfirmed reports this may have something to do with me handing in my thesis at the end of January. As Dave would put it, the beast is almost slayed, I just need to stab it a few more times before it is well and truly dead! Hope to see you both on the other side, Northern or Southern hemisphere, I don’t care. Takk for det gamla!
