Black Hole
What’s this? The blue hole is now black. A long dry season, combined with a massive tree falling into the pool, has totally changed this very special place. Check out this comparison.

While we were standing there a big male cassowary with a chick turned up for a drink. After 3 years of trying, I finally managed to get a few good photos.

Oh, and we stayed with Colton and Carrie at their place just north of the Daintree River. He’s got some little barras in his dam. Here’s one smashing a feed pellet.

Oh, and here’s the fishing story…
The mission was just with Paul Thuesen and myself. We drove up as far as we could go, took the boat up to the first riffle, tied it off and started hiking. We probably only went a few km upstream, but it took ages ’cause we were casting into every pool. There were loads of fish about, and we managed to catch quite a few. However, when Paul landed the biggest fish of the day, a very nice jack, i was across the other side of the river and couldn’t get over in time to take a photo. He managed to ‘release’ it before I got there, but I can confirm that it was a very nice fish.
On the way back down we almost walked onto a big croc nest. Paul had heard that a big female croc nested on the track, but on the way up we were skirting the edges of the pools, rather than walking along the actual bank, and managed to miss it. But, on the way down we just wanted to get back and have some food so we were hurrying alond through the bushes. Just as we came up to the nest I said to Paul, “Hey, is that a croc nest?”. He replies, “Um, kinda looks like one”. Then, right on cue a big rustling comes from behind the nest. We piss-bolted out of there and got back to the car in no time, our hearts racing. Classic.
Afterwards, Paul was like, “I want to go back and check it out”. I said, “Goodbye”, and I haven’t seen him since
