Texas Hold ‘em

Last night I made the pilgrimage to Dave and Jim’s place for the weekly Wednesday night poker meet. It’s a $10 buy in, winner takes all, except second, who gets $20. Usually there’s between 8 and 10 starters. The three times that I’ve played I’ve managed to do ok; learning the rules the first time, then winning, and coming second. Last night I added a bronze to my tally.

Early into the game I was struggling, finding it hard to come across decent cards. Then for a while my luck changed until, with about 5 people left at the table, I had a massive chip lead. Unfortunately, it was whittled away over the next 10 or so hands, until there wasn’t much left. I went all in with a full house, but was beaten - by another full house. That didn’t help much. Slowly but surely my lead faded and I finished third, the most annoying position.

I then had to make it down the 72-odd stairs to ground level, on crutches - that was a bit of a gamble in itself. I managed to get down ok, figuring out the technique as I went; by the last flight I was flying, four steps at a time. When I got home I cringed at the thought of coming unstuck at full speed and resolved to slow down in future, slipping off a step and falling down 12 more with a broken leg would not be cool.

Also, this afternoon I’m going to print up the Dominators singlets and tomorrow I’ll post them to their new homes. I’ll post some shots of the finished work tomorrow; I expect to see plenty of photos in return, amazing feats in full Dominator apparel!

Anyone who get airlifted to hospital in one gets a bonus prize, especially if they get their photo in the paper!

But, you didn’t put your Gordonvale singlet on, even though you had it in your daypack. Loose 10 points!

And, so far no one else has dominated a picnic area!
    Bonus prize please!

I didn’t put it on because it would’ve suffered the same fate as my Columbia shirt - chopped to pieces.

But what a way to go!
