The “party” that wasn’t
Man, all we wanted to do was have a relaxing weekend on maggie to spend some quality time with Kiki before she leaves, have a BBQ with all our friends and have a few laughs. is that too much to ask?
beautiful house booked on the island, everyone has scheduled time off to get away, it’s the only weekend we can all do something together before Kiki is gone, and then on Friday afternoon - when Kiki has already paid up front, and the house is technically already ‘in posession’ and 3 people are on the ferry for the first night - the real estate guy calls Kiki with some crap, making bad excuses and then accusations - saying we were going to have a huge party there and trash the place, calling Kiki a liar when she denies this - and says we can’t have the house we’ve booked and paid for, offers some lowset brick box in an ‘upgrade’ (yeah, right) is rude to everyone and threatens Kiki!!! WTF!??? hello, customer service? obviously NOT a concept FIRST NATIONAL is familiar with.
so; no weekend away. no farewell holiday. no relaxing, no getting away from it all.
but: a party instead, thanks to Clwedd and David’s ‘rival’ event, good on you guys. lots of caipi’s, some dancing, some drunken mexicans (Rodrigo’s newschool ‘dipping’ = kick your feet out from under you, push you over and fall on you - it’s an impressive move on the dancefloor), some stumbling home…… and in the morning : Clwedd and David + flatmates dealing with all the cleaning up of the house (and some spew in David’s sleeping bag - eeew)!
anyway, a good night was had by all… I think Kiki got what she needed.

Thank God someone commented!
I was beginning to think everyone had dropped off the edge.
Happy Easter to all the lurkers out there

On reflection, maybe ‘dropped off the edge’ wasn’t really the most sensitive phrase to use. Sorry Tom

Can you pass on our best wishes to Kiki.
Hope she enjoys her time at Max Plank.
Despite what she thinks now, she may find that very occassionally she misses all that heat and humidity - particularly in the midst of February in Germany. Presumably it will provide just another excuse for you all to have to visit Europe sometime over the next three years.

We’re thinking about having BZoNQiE next year. That’s Botanists and Zoologists of North Queensland (the JCU Tropical Biology annual talk-fest) in Europe. We’ve got to visit Kiki, Asle, Meike (although she’ll be in Africa), and Phil…

Hi gang,
I’m in Norway, just wanted to say hello. And to Kiki - good luck back in Germany! Come and visit me in London if you can. Or maybe I’ll see you in Germany….
