The Pacemaker

I know it’s only May, and that IMDII is still a little way off, but I can’t wait to share my new ride with the tomandzoe.com readership. Here she is, The Dominators Pacemaker. Obviously she’s not finished yet, she still needs new wheels, a drivetrain, a seatpost, a saddle, a front brake, and a handlebar adjustment. Most importantly, she needs some decals. I’m thinking the Dominators stamp on the front of the stem, with ‘Dominators’ up the bottom tube and a heartbeat with ‘Pacemaker‘ in cursive across the top tube. For all the photos, click here.

In other news, Zoe has been busy making shirts to give as lucky-door prizes at a charity trivia night that we’re attending this evening. It’s being organised by Mandy Wildeheart, who is pulling a crafty scheme whereby she organises a charity event and donates the money to an organisation, who pass it on to Cerebral Palsy research. In return, they give her a return ticket to Peru.

I went out in the field last week for a bit of electrofishing action. It was interesting to see the damage wreaked by TC Larry. It looks as though a bush fire has gone through the rainforest; many of the trees have been stripped of their leaves. This is particularly concerning in riparian areas, as the riverside vegetation is usually just a thin, disjointed strip. It’s likely that the weeds will have a field day, now that the canopy is so thin.

The Pacemaker is going to be well wicked!! Hook up some sweet rims and a new seat and Lance better watch out. But don’t make the wheels yourself. I can forsee it being a total PITA!!!

Wildeheart shirts look sweet. Now you need to make up some crotch hugging spandex to match the Pacemaker!!! Oh yeah….. bow wow chicka…

Looking forward to the post about the impacts of TC Larry

    Nice, multifaceted post…

    1) The Pacemaker looks the bomb. I wan’t one now - As of tomorrow, I’m going to start collecting old bike parts off the street. In fact, both mum and dad have upgraded their 70’s steel-framed rigs in the last year or so so there are 2 perfect, lugged frames with diagonal dropouts gathering dust at their place. Hmm… (I’ll probably stick to a freewheel though)

    2) Now that you are printing T’s Zo, and with rusty/ greasy bit’s of Tomo’s bike all over the place, I think the corporate arm of T&Z needs a warehouse of it’s own so you can have your lounge room back.

    3) Look at the size of those trees that have been ripped out of the ground by Larry and floated down the river!

If you get a new seat for the Pacemaker as per Dunc’s suggestion, make sure it’s a strong one. I just had a bike rogaine on Maggie and the bolt holding my seat together snapped with 3hrs left. I had to ride the rest of the day without using the seat for it’s purpose ’sitting on’. The bike looks sweet though. much better than the rusty hunk of metal that I saw you take from Uni that day.

  4. tom says:

I think you mean, ‘…much better than the rusty hunk of metal that was donated by an anonymous benefactor’.

Did you dominate the rogaine, or were you too busy enjoying the ‘ride’ ;) ?

  5. lock says:

I’ve heard that ‘Rogaine’ is actually an acronym formed by the first few letters of the sport’s founders. I think it’s Roger, Gail and Neil or something. I can’t verify this with any evidence but someone might be able to back me up? Timtim, you’ve done your time in the bush with a Vas-caked crack?

  6. Lewis says:

Working our way up the domination ladder at the Rogaine in Mt carbine we came last and in this one we came 5th (out of about 30 teams). We should be prime for the 24hr event in IMD II. It’s the Quoll 12 24 or 36 hr race if anyone is interested here is the link.

I’m moderate why does my comment need moderation

  8. tom says:

It was just because you included a link. We’ve had a lot of spam recently, so the site now automatically sends any comments with a link in them to moderation, o?

  9. lock says:

Good to see you are keeping the Kikanese alive there Tomo.

  10. tom says:

    ya, shure

  11. Lewis says:

Lock was right it is an acronym of 3 people’s names see

    http://rogaine.asn.au/ara/docs/history2.htm

    It has the entire history
“In the mid 1970’s Rod and Neil Phillips recognised the wide appeal and potential of 24 hour orienteering events. In 1976, they coined the word ‘Rogaine’ (from ROd-GAIl-NEil) to give these type of events an identity”

Sweet ride Tom. I’ve put off my fixie dreams at least till next year. Those phils sure look nice laced with white deep v’s, but if you’re interested in a cheap rear suzue fixed/free hub I’ve got one laying around, greased up and never laced.

  13. Tim from baseball says:

    oh and a 14 tooth 3/32 cog.

  14. tom says:

the frame is totally SWEET, now that i’ve given it a clear-coat.

you should drop in and contemplate it’s sweetness over an ale!

tell me the hub is a suzue pro and it’s 125mm spacing!

b.t.w. good luck with your exams. i’m sure you’ll ace them

    p.s. I’m missing baseball this year :(

  15. Tim from baseball says:

I wish it was a pro! But it’s only a basic (with 125mm spacing). My old bike snapped through the seat tube which was going to be my donor frame so when i get the time to learn to braze I’ll replace the tubes that are damaged and stick on a track rear so i can take it to the velodrome. Are you going to be suicidal and leave the brake off your build. You should enter it in the FGG la conversion. Thanks about the exams and i miss baseball too (should of gone back to PCYC for the year).

  16. tom says:

mmmm. only a basic, hey? the more i read on suzue hubs, the more i want phil woods laced to deep-v rims from the cta

They are expensive, very expensive. Beautiful, very beautiful. Smooth, very, very smooth. Probably the best hubs you can buy in the world.

  17. tom says:

    Rear 1/Fixed - 126mm, 130mm - 28H, 32H, 36H - $245AUD

    That’s just the rear hub!

  18. Tim from baseball says:

expensive but worth it. $245 over the next 10 to 15 years of trouble free runninng is a cheap hub. and don’t forget the iron clad guarantee

“…if it fails with normal use and abuse, I will repair them free of charge, replace them with new hubs or refund your purchase price”

If you havn’t seen them kookie bike have some good stuff for an australian site.
