Today I took four minutes off my previous commuting PB. Not a bad effort, but I would’ve been faster if:
1. I’d not broken my leg;
2. I was wearing my Dominators singlet; and
3. there weren’t so many red lights on Charters Towers Rd.
Obviously it wasn’t as nice as ambling along at 20kph beside the river, stopping every few kilometres to double-check that the little bird that made a tweet was actually a golden-headed cisticola, or a red-backed fairy wren, or a fairy martin, or a grey falcon…
I still don’t know if it was a grey falcon, it may have been a brown goshawk (which are actually grey, but not as grey as a grey goshawk). Oh dear…
In any case, I’m now on 319:15. Those last 180km are going to be a mission - especially if I want to do them before heading to Tassie (on my fixed gear as promised).

I thought is was accepted protocol that cyclists ignored red lights and all other traffic regulations. Isn’t that one of the great attraction of cycling?

Obviously you haven’t taken a course in cycling advocacy.
I direct you to this page:

There’s an interesting section on how current road engineering basically violates it’s own aims by delineating between vehicles on the basis of type, rather than destination. This leads to accidents at intersections by mixing traffic.
Which leads to this.
