Hitting the wall

It’s that time of the month - you’re getting up to nearly halfway through IMD2, but you’ve only completed a quarter of your goals: my odometer is stuck on 162km; I’ve only seen 3 new birds; I’m struggling with my thesis chapters; and I haven’t organised my Tassie trip (which I still need to do the poster for).

To make matters worse, last night I lost a $150 game of poker (suited A2 fell to off-suit KQ on an all-in pre-flop suicide bluff, for those playing at home). I threw a great tantrum when I lost, pushing all the chips off the table and then kicking a cup of water over in disgust (which I had to apologise for this morning). Now I have a hangover and had to drive my gas-guzzling, climate-changing SUV to uni. Great.

So, I think I need to regroup and focus on the tasks at hand. I’ll go to bed early tonight (maybe even put in some cleansing km on the fixie), get up early, twitch, write, and repeat (what I really need is a surf). This weekend I’ll have to put in some big hours on my thesis and hopefully hit some birds one morning with Alex (who apparently knows a spot for Mangrove Robins). This afternoon I’ll meet with Richard (my supervisor) and get my tassie trip organised. Wow, so much to do. Maybe Kiki’s right, maybe we do need to extend it to two months?

On Track for IMD2 have done the adventure race and I have recovered. Today I’m back in training for the regatta on the 19-20th. Aim for the regatta is to win the OC2 race or as an alternative get a place.

Do you get a 2 game suspension for bad behavior?
Maybe there is something to be said after all for IMD2 little-sized domination like my bike programme. It is off the laundey wall and in the kitchen having been given a new seat post and a new side stand.
The plan is to take it out onto the bitumen on Saturday with my support crew standing by to catch me if I fall off.
It might be then that we find out where you got your temperament…..

  3. YLD says:

Yes, lurkers, I’ve had to live with this lot for the last twenty years!

There are no suspensions, but sometimes there are bounties put in place for those who have won too many times in a row - although they are rarely enforced… I think we’re going to go to the Seaview next week.

I don’t believe that Tom of all people would throw a tantrum!! That’s pretty brave…

  6. tom says:

I know, totally uncharacteristic, wouldn’t you say?

  7. timtim says:

    ‘bucca made me do it

although clearly you are a master of visualising for IMDII it is just there is a break down in other people sharing your vision…

  9. tom says:

I think other people are sharing the vision. In fact, more so than last year. Nick Clark, for example, is running the City-to-Surf in a Domiantors singlet this weekend. Mum is hitting the road with her bike, and Dunc should have his bike finished too. Maybe we should say that, ‘if you buy a singlet, you have to send a photo of yourself dominating in your singlet each IMD’…

Whatever the case, I think we’re now back on track. I’ve ridden the odometer up to 198.91km, am having a journal article published today or tomorrow, and am getting closer to having my Tassie trip properly organised.

    I’m yet to hear of Zoe’s domiantion plans - I think she’s leaving it a bit late…

    So what’s new!

  11. tom says:

    lol… it’s your funeral buddy…

  12. timtim says:

5:04pm and I’ve hit a wall. Lucky it’s Friday and I have work drinks followed by a dominators convention in Surry Hills!! Noice….

  13. Phildo says:

I would like to say I dominated the Running of the Bulls in my singlet but to be honest I was totally dominated by Sangria!!

  14. tom says:

    so, did you run it?

  15. zoe says:

YLD, it’s true, I havent posted any domination goals… but, I did get up at 6.30am to have a 3 hour english exam this morning..

well, I bought a rebounder (mini trampoline) and am jumping on it - I aim to be ‘bounding’ for 40 mins each day by the end of the month.. i can do the 40 mins, but the every day bit needs work! it’s good low-impact on the knee stuff, and for all you nay-sayers, (as the townsville branch are sick of hearing) NASA say it’s “the most efficient aerobic workout man can do”.

I’m also back at uni after ‘missing out’ on having a holiday (since January!).. ok, so taking intensives in your mid-semester break, and not checking the dates to go back to uni isn’t very smart.. there is an anth confrerence in Cairns during mid-semester break this time too.. maybe I can just CALL it a holiday? that would count, wouldn’t it?
