Friends of the Mongarlowe
The Mongarlowe River rises high in the Shoalhaven catchment, on the western slopes of Budawang National Park. While the surrounding areas are fairly degraded (i.e. cleared), the river itself is beautiful. Yesterday I headed down there with another guy to run a training day for the local community group - The Friends of the Mongarlowe. It was an instream habitat assessment boot camp. I think they got a lot out of it and can put it to use over the next couple of months. They want to characterise the river so that they can identifiy habitats that Macquarie Perch, which are listed as endangered, might like. For the rest of the week it’s off to Botany Bay, where I’ll be driving a boat around for a girl at work, and then to the Hawkesbury-Nepean near Pitt Town for more of the same. Ahhhh… another day in the office.
