a short northern post
Wot I am doing now my holimadays are OVER:
Working crazy long days, daily events (yep, 12 - 18 year olds are still on holidays, damn them). it’s dirty and tiring, but the overtime is sweet! Having fun with Jojo and she and I have mastered the fine art of the mass sausage sizzle/onion BBQ. We rock at it.
Accepting honours for midyear, looks like I do have 3 bloody credits to chase up! No sweat though, cos I obviously rock at that uni stuff too: came first in my social survey design class, which is unbeliveable: none of us had any idea what was going on half the time, and the lecturer most definately had a fav, and it was not me! I must have aced the exam! That is my first first, and I have gotten way better marks, like HD for every assignment… I only got a D for this subject. Boy, we must have sucked. But I sucked least! Ha!
Errr, that’s about it really. Oh, no. Got horribly horribly drunk on Thursday night after work; never looking at or even thinking about red wine again, have been feeling (first a lot, and finally a little) hungover for like 3 days. Soooo bad. And on a ’school night’. Sooooo learnt my lesson when I was trundling off to ‘come and try belly dancing’ on friday morning! Good thing I am the silent stoic type, hey?
And that’s what I’ve been doing. What about you lot?

Speaking of mid-week trouble-makers, last Wednesday we drove Brooke’s fun bus up to Pacific Palms to see Blue King Brown. We rocked out until 3am and then had to get up for work a few hours later (I didn’t, of course, I lay in bed moaning in pain until 10:30am, when I finally got my sorry ass up and out the door).
That afternoon we had a ‘board meeting’ at Birubi Point. There were about 10 guys from fisheries out there surfing in the shark infested waters.
This weekend I went to the pub on Friday night, went to work all day Saturday, to a BBQ in the evening and then worked all day Sunday too. I’ve been getting my PhD papers together - three now in the draft stage, ready for my UNSW postdoc interview next Tuesday.
Haven’t seen a new bird all year

Kiki, honey. hope you’re inner peace is kicking the ass of any trouble coming your way, just keep your mind on the end result (you being Dr. Awesome, with a sweet post doc macked out at the smithstonian in Panama, drinking pina coladas on the beach. bitchy techies collecting stickers under 3 feet of snow in Nowheretown).
Timtim - what part am I supposed to be relieved about?! the drinking on a school night, the surviving sharky waters, the papers, the post doc, the… oh! the NO BIRDS! dude.

I’ve seen a new bird this year, but I haven’t finished any thesis chapters, so I guess I suck. O?

It was the brush cuckoo, just in front of the biology building. That’s the place to twitch, I tell you!
