The touch your toes challenge

This is pathetic.

Tom and Lach attempting to touch their toes in early August

Today I pulled a semi-early riser and did a solid hour of stretching and push-ups to start the day. Apart from being quite painful and requiring a late afternoon nap, the plan worked quite well. The thing is, I could only manage a hamstring stretch of -18cm. You can test yourself using these instructions - basically tape a ruler to a milk crate, sit on the floor and lean forward.

Meanwhile, Zoe can nearly put her elbows on the floor without a warm up of any sort.

Just weighing in here as a running who needs to try and keep flexi.

I used to be inflexable too, the secret it consistantly stretching at every opportunity it’s not about strength, you can’t muscle through it (I’m looking at you Tom… I can imagine you going NNNNNNNNN until you pop something remember that stem I busted, that could happen to your hammy)

Don’t ‘bounce’ move into the stretch and hold it putting gentle pressure on the tendors, and go for a walk or ride or something before you start stretching or even have a hot bath and apply some decorub or similar.

in northern news I am up to 805 push ups, I think I am going to up the ante a little and see that I can’t sneak a few extras in each day… I’m bumping my sets up to 40 then try for another 40 then 20’s to the end

If I want to touch my toes I bend my knees. My bike also has a motor.

Got it down to -12 last night, after a nice bike ride over the bridge and 100 clicks over the weekend.

last night I was 110 push ups ahead of plan with a cumulative total of 1510. there was one rest day in there (even the guys in le tour need them) and if I keep to my 150 or 200 days for the last couple I am going to totally dominate my paltry claim for 3000 push ups! come on!!

Don’t worry. Women are naturally more flexible than Men. It’s got nothing to do with beer-guts or anything….
