Another week in the ‘desert’
This field trip really was like a trip to the desert, which is kinda strange, given that it should really be a wetland. The guys did their aerial survey and only saw a single White-necked Heron - a fair drop from the hundreds of thousands that have been recorded there previously and an indication of how dry it really is. The fish populations are doing in tough too. We sampled every major pool within a 100km radius in a week - it should’ve taken much longer. I did get a chance to bust out my new swag, which was a great success. One night, I pulled in out onto the clay-pans and reclined under the Milky Way. It was pretty cool, but a scary monster (i.e., a kangaroo) came to visit me at 2:30am.

I can try to blow really hard and push some of the wet season down.. It would be really amazing to see the transformation if/when a good flush of rains come a la lake Eyre and the Diamantina R

hey there T&Z,
I no longer reside in Cambodia (moved out of my apartment yesterday) and am currently in Vietnam. Will be back in Syd on the 2nd, for the weekend, then to Townsville. Will be so weird being in Australia (but so awesome!). Must catch up at some stage, I’ll be in Syd/Tsv until Aprilish.
take care!
Jodi
