Medial meniscus ouchy…

Poor old Zoe’s ‘broken’ her knee and is now in hospital recovering - all for a measly 80 cents.

We got on the bus at Bondi Junction, but didn’t have the right change for the fare. As a result, Zoe had to pay the final 80 cents with a $20 note. The driver didn’t, of course, have any notes. The lights turned green, he threw some coins at me and pulled away from the lights. We made our way towards the back of the bus. He drove quickly through the intersection, over the bumps.

As we reached our seats, the bus lurched. Zoe stepped into the seat and twisted to sit down - severely dislocating her knee. She screamed and cried and screamed until we got to Randwick. Panic rose in the back seats. People tried to help and/or distance themselves from the ’screaming freak’ at the back of the bus. Finally, we arrived at Randwick Junction and extracted Zoe from the bus. She was still in a lot of pain, clutching her knee and hyperventilating. I chucked her in a cab, took her home and, within about 10 minutes, called 000 and got the paramedics around.

They took us up to Prince of Wales where we were triaged down the list and waited for 6 hours (in the plaster room, without adequate pain cover) for her to get admitted. I left her in the Orthopedic ward at about 10:30pm. She’s on a variety of anti-inflamatories and morphine. Poor thing. Hopefully the swelling will go down, she can get an MRI and talk with her surgeon. Who knows how it’ll pan out? I’m heading into the field for a couple of weeks, so Mum and Dad will be holding the fort. My guess is she’s done her Medial Meniscus and damaged the cartilage on her patella - to add to her torn ACL. Ouch!

Do you suppose it was a knee-jerk reaction? :)

    Poor Zoe.
You guys have a bit of bad luck with “legs” don’t you?
6 hours in the plaster room? It’s a wonder it wasn’t front page news along with the 91 year old granny in the storeroom.
Good luck Zoe and hope things have improved by next time I read.

Don’t worry guys - we’re full on experts by now. The ambulance staff were awesome - inspired me to want to be one.

Zoe’s being super tough. We’re at mum and dad’s tonight, but I have to head into the field tomorrow (got to get these sites fished).

Joelle’s going to come and look after her tomorrow, so she should be ok.

Zoe, your Puku fans need to know that you have been through some really tough times, otherwise they’ll just think your one of those celebrities that has it easy and has no soul!
I guess it’s inevitable that the paparazzi got into the hospital. It must have been the ambos that tipped them off.
I understand how you feel, it happens to me all the time.
I guess it’s just part of the price of being an internet superstar.
(p.s The guy sitting by your bed looks a bit sus!)

Zoe, you always look great. Even with the “been crying forever” look. I wonder if we could see some of the “She’s on a variety of anti-inflamatories and morphine”-look photos.

I like the first two photos. It kind of looks as if you were trying to run away from the paramedics.

Anyway, I hope you haven’t been crying for the last very many hours. Have a good meniscus/cartillage/gearshift-and-breaks/patella recovery.

    Hugs… Bon courage!

[...] slightly less appetising folks, I know I promised a very good write up of the yummy kiwi things I ate, but I have a very good excuse why nothing has shown up here yet. for those who do not keep up with the goings on in the t+z sphere, I’m sure you will be shocked to hear that I painfully twisted and dislocated my knee (due for reconstruction in a mere 2 weeks time) and may well have caused some additional damage, possibly to the remaining major ligament, resulting in an ambulance ride to emergency, and spending most of this week in hospital. Stop bagging out the Paramedics! So what if they all want to get in the bed together.
Hope they gave you the good stuff Zoe.

    Get well soon Zoe.

    Sue the driver?
