2008 National Track Championships

For the uninitiated (and the initiated alike) it was an impressive, often scary, display of powerful track racing. Both the women’s and the men’s events were fast, with world-class riders such as Shane Kelly, Luke Davidson and Ryan Bayley letting loose on the steep curves of Dunc Gray’s pampered indoor banks.

Ride of the night went to either: (a) the young Western Australian duo who rode their tandem match-sprint, against a much more experienced (i.e., chunky) crew from Queensland, as though it was a pursuit; or (b) the winner of the women’s scratch race, who attacked with a very classy move off the front on the second last lap.

Now, we just need to adjust the gear inches and get out there ourselves - stay tuned.

Some pretty crazy stuff! Speaking of track I am going to try to make my debut on the concrete loop of pain up here in Darwin on Tuesday! I’m thinking 90 or 92 inches?

Yep ~90 inches is a good ballpark figure

I thought it was classic watching Ryan Bailey slowly circle the infield like a prehistoric alpha male with his arms crossed on his chest (while humming the Jaws theme), picking the remains of competitors from his cranks, flossing his teeth with the red world record line the swimmers chase and polishing his multiple gold medals.

Turns out he’s a key player in track cyclings version of the Bold and the Beautiful:

What’s the comment at the end of that article about the “good, solid flogging” sounds a great way to repair a fractured disc. Although I’m not sure how you can fracture soft tissue?
