Marshes Media
Some readers may have noticed a few items in the media today - in print and online. These relate to a report produced by our lab into the development of channels, levees and storages across the Macquarie River floodplain, particularly in the Marshes area downstream from Warren. Over 2000 km of these structures have seriously altered the way in which water travels through the system. While some argue that the area still receives 85% of it’s total amount of water (I don’t know where this oft-quoted figure originates), it is these alterations to the actual delivery of water that are probably more important. If all the water is restricted to small creeks and rarely gets out onto the floodplain for extended periods, then the native biota is likely to suffer.

Great coverage for the lab but more importantly for the marshes. Well done Tomo!
I just wish I could take photos as nice as the SMH photog! That slide show is a great record.

I quite liked his shot of the water with the tannin stained leaves underneath…
