A wildlife festival

Today was a bit of a wildlife festival, beginning with an aerial performance of dogfighting between a Hobby, a Peregrine Falcon, a Brown Goshawk and a Nankeen Kestrel. They swooped on each other, twisting, turning and talon grappling for about 10 minutes. I managed to get some pretty average photos from a couple of hundred feet below.

Next up was some fishy action, followed by a hike into the Intermediate Egret breeding colony. There monitors pillaged eggs and chicks, raptors patrolled the air, parents honked and chicks begged for food, all amongst the general funk that comes with a couple of thousand birds all nesting next to one another. Quite a sight.

Last on the menu was a black snake swimming through native couch grass.
