Into the Pantanal
Tomorrow we leave Cuiaba and head for the Pantanal. At approximately 500km long by 200-300km wide, it’s the largest wetland on Earth and home to a fantastic diversity of plants, insects, fish and birds (+ jaguars).
We’re going on a 4 day tour arranged by a local tourism company. Unfortunately, for the last few days they’ve been running trips for the entire conference and have been royally disorganised. Hopefully this doesn’t continue.
My colleagues went on a trip before the conference and had a bewilderingly fantastic time. They saw Hyacinth Macaws etc. etc. and set a target of 154 bird species. I think we can beat it.

We were having a jaguars conversation last night, and everyone agreed that seeing a jaguar means you’re automatically cool. So aim for the big cat (+155 birds)!
