Four seasons in two weeks

I just returned from two weeks of fieldwork in the Macquarie Marshes. The full spectrum of rain, wind and heat was present - the only thing missing was snow. We caught a new species (silver perch), touched base with some golden perch that were hatched last Christmas and tagged a few large European carp and Murray cod.

From top left to bottom right:
- Just 10 mm of rain makes driving impossible.
- Launching our boat is tricky in places.
- Keep on trucking.
- The first silver perch of the project.
- Electrofishing a waterhole.
- Sparks fly into the night.
- An adult golden perch
- An apocalyptic landscape in the Marshes.
- A male emu with 19 little ones.
- Fire & thunder.
- A red-bellied black snake.
- Storm clouds brew to the North of the Marshes.
- A potential paddock-basher.
- Juvenile golden perch that hatched last Christmas.
- A humungous European carp. Note the belly full of eggs.
- Sampling a small creek with fyke nets.
