Dunc and the Dunc Gray Velodrome

There’s nothing like the right tool for the job. On a velodrome, the right tool is a track bike.

Now, track bikes come in a variety of shapes and sizes, from small shiny hipster machines…

Working, whiling, waiting

Posted by tom on June 16th, 2008 @ 9:49 am.

WWW. That’s what we’re doing. Working on our shit, whiling away the time and waiting until the next adventure comes along. As this could be any minute now, we tend to burn a lot of nervous energy, get tired and need to have little lie-downs. I take a few extra lie-downs, just to be safe, and do push-ups in the living room in between drinking glasses of water and commenting on how I’ve been ‘feeling really thirsty recently’.

The next adventure proper is going to be Sunday, when we head to Dunc-Gray Velodrome for some zinging (possibly followed by a feast), or Saturday, when we might go flying with dad. Then, of course, there’s Friday, when I’m flying to Dubbo for a day-long workshop. Thursday probably won’t be special, but I might go for a ride in the morning. Wednesday and Tuesday probably need some help, although I’m bound to get some push-ups done… So, yeah.

Yesterday YLM, YLD, Zoe and I spent 30 minutes peering into the oceanic mist off Maroubra at grey and white birds. These may have been Buller’s Albatrosses, but were actually Black-Browed instead. It was mum’s birthday so, naturally, she got a tick while the rest of us got cold and wet. Except me, I had a fluro hood, so I was sweet.

Oh, and Zoe made a fucking nice upside-down Quice, Cherry and Lime cake for Kath’s birthday FEAST, so I hope that goes on the puku and I can eat it again - eat it with my mind!

Ok, time for some coffee.

Push-ups are for… lames.

Last year, winter in Sydney was cold. It wasn’t bitter like a NY winter, but it was pretty cold by Sydney standards. For three (or four) long months, Ben and I huddled around our shitty heaters as the wind howled around our window frames and waves lashed the coast. People said, ‘Don’t bother buying a heater, it’ll all be over soon’. How wrong they were.

To stave off the cold, we started a push-up challenge, with the aim of doing 100 in a row. This year, it’s on again…

Nothing, something, everything

There’s been a lack of posts recently, ’cause I’ve been writing and figuring out all the data from our Marshes field trips. The reports are due at the end of June, with drafts due this week. So, it’s head down, bum up.

I’m also putting together a little video of the week’s work…
